Horseback Riding Lesson Information & Policies
_____1. Payment is due before lesson starts or by the 1st lesson of each month for packages. There is a $45 late fee on the 8th and your lesson spot may be forfeited.
_____2. Discounted “package lessons” (set of 4) must be used within a 4 week period to get the discount but some students may opt to use them all in week, depending on availability of management. Lessons are also offered as singles, although packages are most cost effective.
_____3. There are no refunds.
_____4. Multiple lesson packages may be available at a discount for people wanting to train competitively.
_____5. Sometimes we offer special rate Introductory Starter Packages for “Pee-wee” and “Young Rider” introductory lessons with our assistant instructors. These are a very basic, low-key walk/trot only starter lesson.
*** A child may or may not be ready to move up to a higher level of riding after a few months of Introductory lessons.
If parents desire a more intense competitive type lesson, student must be proficient at a certain level to be considered for enrollment with our head instructor.
* A 'Pee-Wee" rider is considered 6 & under. Please realize that these are basically a glorified pony ride because of attention span at this age. Lessons are 40 minutes total broken down as follows: 20 minutes horse management/ tack up (care of & getting the pony ready to ride), 10 minutes in the saddle, 10 minutes untack & put away.
* "Young Riders" are 7-11 years old. 45 minute lessons consist of 15 minute horse management/ tack up, 20 minutes in the saddle, 10 minutes untack. Occasionally we will extend out the Young Rider age limit for 1st time "never ridden" students slightly over 11 years old. Riders/ parents wanting more time in the saddle will need to bump up to regular lessons vs. Introductory Lessons.
_____6. Tack up/cool down time is an important part of the lesson for teaching horsemanship/ horse management, responsibility, respect & work ethic. If more riding time is desired, see about longer regular lesson times/prices. If you do not wish to include the tack up period in your lesson, there is an extra fee of $25 per lesson for us to have your horse ready for you to mount however no extra riding time will be provided besides the allotted saddle time for that lesson.
_____7. If you arrive late, you will forfeit part of your actual riding time as the lesson will end at the pre-appointed time.
_____8. There are no makeup lessons available for missed pre-scheduled lessons that student does not attend on their part. Management is scheduled very tightly and it is not feasible for them to rearrange the many aspects that go into scheduling a lesson. If student cannot make the lesson for whatever reason, as a foreseen or even in emergency circumstances, the lesson is forfeited.
_____9. For the extra 5th week that some months will have within the year, management will use those weeks for lessons rescheduled on management's part. Management will make every reasonable effort to contact students should it become necessary to reschedule a lesson. When foreseen, management will try to reschedule ahead of time instead of the regular lesson schedule.
_____10. Parents/guardian needs to be prompt in picking up student if they have not stayed during the lesson. There is an extra charge for after lesson daycare. The same is expected for early pre-lesson arrival. Minor aged student may not be unsupervised at any time on the premises.
_____11. Student is required to bring sturdy boots to wear for safety reasons. A safe boot includes approx. 1” heel. Thrift stores are a great resource for finding something to start out with.
_____12. No shorts for riding …as blisters can be very uncomfortable!
_____13. Student is required to bring an equestrian approved helmet to wear while mounted. Pee-Wee's must wear helmet also during the unmounted portion of the lesson.
_____14. Student may bring guests, parents & siblings to watch. However, they must remain quiet, non-interfering and sitting in designated observation areas while in the lesson barn. Outside of the lesson barn, with permission from management, parents must accompany children to look at the other animals in different areas on the property. To utilize this privilege, it is expected that everyone maintains calm, quiet behavior.
_____15. Student is required to have a pleasant attitude. At their discretion, Instructor reserves the right to stop & discontinue any remainder of the lesson without any makeup if student is not acting cooperative and/or exhibits disrespectful demeanor & behavior. *This also applies if student seems "off" from their usual countenance, such as in overly tired or appears unwell/ sick as determined by the instructor.
_____16. A release form must be read and signed by student (or guardian if under 18) before lessons will start.
_____17. Any known disabilities (such as, but not limited to, learning, mental, physical, emotional, etc.) of the student must be disclosed in writing before enrollment so that expectations may be considered.
